BRASOVAN LOSES DISTRICT 12 PRIMARY

For Immediate Release: March 2, 2010
Contact: Danielle Capper, Media Relations. dcapper@mikebrasovan.com

Message from Mike Brasovan:

“I am proud of the race we ran. Having given Kay Granger a spirited challenge, I think we have succeeded in sending a message to Kay and others in Washington that the people want results. We the people want liberty, freedom, and a government that works for them, not the other way around. I hope that Kay Granger will take this message and work hard to these ends in the next two years. The people of District 12 deserve better than politics as usual. This being said, if things don’t change, I will challenge her again in two years!

“I first want to thank Almighty God. I want to thank my family for their support and dedication through this whole process. I want to thank my campaign staff who has worked very hard. I am so thankful for the incredible volunteers that have spread the word. I also want to thank the people on Facebook and others who have gotten out the message and spread the word. Without them we never would have been able to touch the people that we have with this campaign. Lastly, I want to thank many of the voters of District 12.

“Now, We the People need to stay engaged. There will be future elections and future opportunities. We must find the best candidates, put them forward, and support them. My challenge to everyone is to stay engaged. Our human tendency towards apathy is nothing new; we must not continue as if this is a one-time event in our lives - this needs to be a new way of life. If we are going to honor the sacrifice of the troops and those that have gone before us preparing the way, we must keep our principles and values alive. We must take this message home and keep it alive in the years to come. We must instill it in our children, our family, and our friends.

“In the words of James Garfield: ‘Now, more than ever before, the people are responsible for the character of their Congress. If that body be ignorant, reckless, and corrupt, it is because the people tolerate ignorance, recklessness, and corruption. If it be intelligent, brave, and pure, it is because the people demand these high qualities to represent them in the national legislature. If the next centennial does not find us a great nation, it will be because those who represent the enterprise, the culture, and the morality of the nation do not aid in controlling the political forces.’”

GRANGER MISSES THE REST OF THE STORY

For Immediate Release: March 1, 2010

Contact: Danielle Capper, Media Relations. dcapper@mikebrasovan.com

The facts are not on the side of U.S. Rep. Kay Granger as she continues to claim “conservative” credentials after 13 years in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Her most recent email states: “Today, I received news that the National Journal ranked me as the 41st most conservative Member of Congress out of all 435 Members of Congress.”

Beyond the fact that this six-term representative should realize that Congress is comprised of 535 total members, not 435 (The U.S. House of Representatives has 435 members; the U.S. Senate has 100 senators.) Congressional candidate Mike Brasovan also wants to point out that the ranking is misleading at best and really tends toward meaningless.

Read on for the rest of the story challenging Rep. Granger’s latest email.

Rep. Granger fails to mention that this ranking takes into account only certain votes from 2009, after liberal Democrats took control of both Houses of Congress. There are currently 178 Republicans in the U.S. House and 255 Democrats.

“I would hope that people would realize that it would be hard NOT to look like a conservative when the vast amount of the legislation being brought up for a vote is so far to the left. We should always expect republicans to be ranked higher than democrats as conservatives, in any year, but especially when liberals are in the majority, Brasovan said.

Brasovan says it’s more interesting to note that for both 2006 and 2004, when Republicans (supposedly more conservative representatives) were in the majority in the U.S. House and Senate, the National Journal ranks Rep. Granger more poorly – her “conservative” ranking is lower when it should have either remained comparable to the most recent ranking or been even higher to back her claims as a conservative. (list ranking info). Also, even in 2009, Granger only scored a 79.5 out of 100 on the votes looked at by National Journal (including votes on cap and trade, expanding hate crimes legislation, and funds from TARP, the bailout program that Granger voted for).

“That is a C+ to me” said Brasovan. “Congressional District 12 is not C+ conservative. We are A+ conservative and should be represented by that kind of person. Clearly, Granger’s ranking started to climb when she knew she needed to start looking more conservative to stay in office and, in 2009, when she had a strong, truly conservative challenger. What voters need to consider though is that, if elected again and the Republicans take control of the House, she may well go back to her moderate, big spending, earmarking ways.”

GRANGER MAILER NEEDS A TRUTH TEST

For Immediate Release: Friday, February 26, 2010

Contact: Danielle Capper, Media Relations. dcapper@mikebrasovan.com

Rep. Kay Granger's latest mailer to District 12 voters not only contains false and misleading statements, but appears to run afoul of Federal Election Commission (FEC) regulations as well.

The large brochure, declaring Rep. Granger's "Conservative Texas Values," and that she is "fighting for conservative values and personal freedom," fails to state that it is a paid political advertisement which, according to FEC regulations, makes this mailer illegal.

Congressional candidate Mike Brasovan, who is running against Rep. Granger in the March 2nd Republican Primary, received the mailer at his home address and immediately questioned several of the stated claims.

"This mailer is a prime example of politics at its worst," he said. "For so-called leaders to think that misleading the public is an acceptable way to get elected is not only unconscionable, it is intolerable."

Just a few of the claims in the mailer are that Rep. Granger:

• Voted "YES" to “Creating the FAIR Tax." It's unclear whether this refers to the FAIR Tax Act, which has not come up for a vote in Congress. It was first proposed by Rep. John Linder (R-GA) in 1999; most recently the bill was introduced in January 2009. Granger didn’t sign on in support of this bill for the most recent session as a co-sponsor until October 2009 – as the primary race was beginning to heat up. She voted back in 1998 in favor of H.R. 472 (105th Congress), which declared that any new federal tax system should be: (1) a simple and fair system; and (2) approved by the Congress in its final form no later than July 4, 2002.

• Voted "YES" to cutting income taxes. Mr. Brasovan says this claim is misleading, at best. Rep. Granger supported H.R. 143 in 2009 (introduced by another representative) to create a two-month federal "tax holiday." She claims on her U.S. House website that this would reduce 2009 income taxes by 17 percent. This bill did not come to a vote. Rep. Granger did vote for the Working Families Tax Relief Act in 2004, which extended several tax credits but did nothing to reform our nation’s current tax system.

• Voted "NO to the Obama plan to try terrorists in a courtroom in New York City and give them legal protections." There has been no vote on this measure in the U.S. House. New York Rep. Bill King filed a bill (HR 4542) to prohibit the use of Justice Department funds to try Guantanomo detainees in federal civilian court. This bill remains in committee. Rep. Granger is not listed as a co-sponsor.

• Voted "NO to the Obama 'czars.'" H.R. 3226, the Czar Accountability and Reform Act of 2009, was referred to the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform on July 15, 2009. While Rep. Granger has signed on as a co-sponsor, there have been no House votes on this resolution.

The recent mailer also features a quote from Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-MN), along with Bachmann’s photo. Rep. Bachmann states that "… every day in Congress, Kay has stood with me against Obama’s policies…. I need Kay Granger in Congress to help me continue our fight against big government policies."

Brasovan says this statement is also misleading, given that Rep. Bachmann has missed only 5 percent of votes in the U.S. House, while Rep. Granger has missed more than twice that number.

"I guess Kay Granger believes it is acceptable to have missed more than 1 out of every 10 votes taken during her tenure, and then seem to think it's acceptable to campaign supporting votes that haven't even happened," Brasovan said. "I would hope that Michele Bachmann will actually see the need in Congress for true, conservative leaders, and not just support someone who has donated to her campaign fund."

"Granger is not 'leading the fight' against anything or acting as a 'conservative leader' in Congress," Brasovan said. "Leading the fight is getting out in front and proposing real, conservative alternatives to the liberal agenda, whether you're the majority party or not. Leading the fight is standing up to say what needs to be said – the truth - instead of saying what you think is needed to get elected."

BRASOVAN ADDS FOUR MORE ENDORSEMENTS TO CAMPAIGN

For Immediate Release: February 16, 2010

Contact: Danielle Capper, dcapper@mikebrasovan.com

Fort Worth, TX- Mike Brasovan (R) Conservative Candidate for Congressional District 12 has recently received several endorsements. First Brasovan was endorsed by Texas Alliance for Life. Texas Alliance for Life is a non-sectarian, non-partisan, pro-life organization of people committed to protecting innocent human lives from conception through natural death through peaceful, legal means. He has also been personally endorsed by Kyleen Wright, Michael Quinn Sullivan and Kelly Shackelford.

“Mike has demonstrated that he is solidly pro-life. We need him in Congress,” said Dr. Joe Pojman, Executive Director, Texas Alliance for Life

“I am so thankful to be endorsed by Texas Alliance for Life. It is a strong organization that works tirelessly to promote and protect pro-life public policy in Texas,” said Brasovan.

Kyleen Wright, President of Texans for Life Coalition, said “District 12 is strongly pro-life. The residents of that district need to know that there is a pro-life choice in the race, and that is Mike Brasovan. I encourage voters to put life first and vote for Mike!”

Additionally Michael Quinn Sullivan, President of Texans for Fiscal Responsibility endorsed Brasovan.

“As we consider the issues facing our nation, none is more fundamental than controlling spending. It is through the power of the wallet – or, more directly, the power of government to reach into the peoples’ wallets – the federal government directly and often inappropriately touches into every aspect of life in direct contradiction to our Constitution,” said Sullivan “Brasovan has laid out a commonsense plan for putting – and keeping – government on a strict diet. For the sake of our children, grandchildren and the future of our great Republic, I encourage him to continue the fight in Congress.”

“The people of House District 12 would be well served to vote for Brasovan in the March 2 primary,” said Sullivan.

Additionally Kelly Shackelford President of Liberty Institute (formerly the Free Market Foundation and Liberty Legal Institute), has endorsed Brasovan.

“People are tired of D.C. Republicans and ready for true conservatives. Mike is clearly the conservative choice in this race,” said Shackelford.

Brasovan is committed to being an advocate for pro-life, pro-family values, and to controlling federal spending. “I am both humbled and honored to be endorsed by all of these individuals and organizations. It is very encouraging to have support in these critical final weeks of the campaign,” said Brasovan.

Many precinct chairmen, PAC’s, and individuals have endorsed Brasovan as well. For a full list please visit www.mikebrasovan.com.

DOES GRANGER FIT THE GOP PLATFORM?

For Immediate Release: February 4, 2010
Contact: Danielle Capper, Media Relations. dcapper@mikebrasovan.com

Ft. Worth, TX- Mike Brasovan (R) congressional candidate for District 12 believes that GOP leaders should require GOP candidates to support the party’s platform. The Republican National Committee recently passed a rule that would prod local, state, and national leaders to provide financial support to only those candidates who support the party’s platform.

To read more about the discussion:
http://www.onenewsnow.com/Politics/Default.aspx?id=877152

Brasovan’s opponent, incumbent Kay Granger, a Republican for the past 14 years, does not support all of the party’s positions. Specifically, Granger is NOT pro-life, calling herself a “pro-choice Republican,” as seen on YouTube.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cTNRytKDk70

Granger praised the Food and Drug Administration’s decision to approve the RU-486 abortion pill and is also an advocate of embryonic stem-cell research. She is a member of Republican Majority for Choice, and received campaign contributions from the Wish List, which supports pro-choice Republican women candidates. She is also on the “Honorary Advisory Board” of the Wish List.

Furthermore, Granger does not support the party’s platform for smaller government. “Like the other Kay – Kay Bailey Hutchison - Kay Granger has voted for increases in the federal budget year after year,” said Brasovan, “If Kay is a true conservative, why does she currently have a 7% rating (non-conservative) on The Club for Growth's 2009 "Re-Pork Card" instead of the 100% rating that true conservative Jeb Hensarling has? The numbers are hard to argue with. She is not a conservative.”

In addition, her so-called “conservative record” includes:

· Requests for over $17 million in earmarks in the 2009 Omnibus spending bill
· Seeing NO NEED to end earmarks
· A ranking as the 13th most prolific earmark spender in the Republican Party, and 33rd overall.
· A Vote FOR the 2008 Bailout Bill (H.R. 1434)

Granger helped shape the $700 billion bailout package, which she supported both times it came to the floor. She said the measure would quickly stabilize the country.

“Granger has become part of the Washington institution. She votes to “bring home the bacon” but doesn’t vote for what’s best for our country,” said Brasovan.

BRASOVAN ON FEDERAL BALANCED BUDGET AMENDMENT

For Immediate Release: January 26, 2010

Contact:
Danielle Capper, Media Relations. dcapper@mikebrasovan.com

Ft. Worth, TX- With the national debt ceiling rising many members of the Texas Conservative Coalition (TCC) are in support of Governor Rick Perry’s call for a federal balanced budget amendment to the United States Constitution. Yesterday State Representative Phil King (R-Weatherford) joined the group. Conservative congressional candidate Mike Brasovan (R-District 12) agrees with them.

“I appreciate and applaud the concern expressed recently by Representative King and the other Texas Conservative Coalition (TCC) members regarding our federal budget and the ever increasing budget deficit.,” said Brasovan, ”This announcement complements my recent presentation to the Bush Legacy Republican Women’s group in Weatherford regarding out national debt. While I do support a balanced budget amendment, and would vote for one as a congressman, I think we can get the same results if we will just send the right people to Washington.”

In 1989, federal outlays totaled $1.1 trillion; in 2008, not even twenty years later, federal outlays nearly tripled to $2.97 trillion. As of January 20, 2010, the United States national debt stands in excess of $12.3 trillion, which is rapidly approaching the newly-raised debt limit of $12.39 trillion.

“While the TCC rightly points to President Obama, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, and Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi as those responsible for the rapidly increasing deficits, they don’t lay blame at the feet of the many Republicans that were in office up to 2006,” said Brasovan, ”These Republicans should have been controlling spending and solving the big monetary problems facing our nation when they had the power to do it.”

“The Republicans in office up to 2006 should share some of the responsibility for what we have today,” said Brasovan, “Don’t get me wrong, Obama and friends have taken deficit spending to a whole new level, but we should be able to get that spending under control by sending the right people to Washington. People that are willing to act like, and to lead like, principled conservatives.”

BRASOVAN CHALLENGES GRANGER ON 14TH CHARGE?

For Immediate Release: January 27, 2010

Contact:
Danielle Capper, Media Relations. dcapper@mikebrasovan.com

Ft. Worth, TX- Over a month ago Mike Brasovan (R) candidate for Congressional District 12, signed the letter asking for the 14th murder charge to Major Hasan. Now his opponent, Congresswoman Kay Granger, has “endorsed the call.”

http://www.star-telegram.com/weatherfordtelegram/opinions/story/1920097.html

“While I am glad to see Ms. Granger support the call to charge Nidal Hasan with a 14th count of murder, I am surprised that is has taken her so long to do it. My campaign endorsed the letter from the Texas legislators and sent a news release on December 21st challenging Granger to endorse it as well,” said Brasovan.

“What I really don't understand is how Congresswoman Granger could say "I hope Secretary McHugh will show the same respect for this unborn life that military law prescribes." Yet she has stated that she is a "pro-choice Republican" and considers that same unborn life a ‘choice’.”

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cTNRytKDk70

“Also, why would someone that is a member of, and is endorsed by, the Wish List and Republican Majority for Choice, and that voted to use our tax dollars to pay for the destruction of embryos to be used in embryonic stem cell research now come out in support of a pro-life position?” questioned Brasovan.

“If you read her statements carefully, it seems to me that Rep. Granger is trying to parse words about abortion the same way that Kay Bailey Hutchison did in the first governor's debate. Ms. Granger’s repeated references to the particular language of the military code used to justify her support for the letter, along with her lack of a clear statement that a baby's life should be protected, whether under military law or not, shows that she is only trying to sound like a pro-life Republican,” said Brasovan.

BRASOVAN WEIGHS IN ON MASSACHUSETTS RACE

For Immediate Release: January 18, 2010

Contact:
Danielle Capper, Media Relations. dcapper@mikebrasovan.com

Ft. Worth, TX- All eyes are on the Massachusetts election tomorrow, including those of Republican congressional candidate Mike Brasovan (R).

“The Massachusetts Senate race is incredibly exciting for many reasons,” said Brasovan. “Obviously the consequences are huge for Obama's agenda and healthcare specifically. However, it is also a great indicator of the nation's mood regarding Washington politics as usual. 2010 is not the same old political game. Indications are it will be a year of upheaval and our race here in District 12 will certainly benefit from this.”

Political polls today indicate a Scott Brown victory by 5-10% of the vote. If that indeed happens tomorrow, many speculate the Democrats will try everything in their power to pass the healthcare bill.

“There has been a lot of talk about whether Brown will be seated in time to vote on healthcare. If the Democrats try to do anything underhanded, like delaying the admittance of a duly elected official, then they will be digging themselves that much deeper into a hole,” said Brasovan. “Any Democrat that votes for healthcare with Brown's vote not being counted will be easy pickings for a challenger this year.”

“I will also be surprised if the House tries to pass the Senate healthcare bill,” the candidate continued. “Too many House members don't like it and it still contains the ‘Cornhusker Kickback’ and the second ‘Louisiana Purchase.’ Those provisions are very damaging to Democrats.”

GRANGER’S CHANGE OF HEART TOO LITTLE, TOO LATE?

For Immediate Release: January 15, 2010

Contact:
Danielle Capper, Media Relations. dcapper@mikebrasovan.com

Congresswoman Kay Granger’s recent criticism of government bailouts is too little, too late, said Republican congressional candidate Mike Brasovan.

“I find it more than a little ironic that she would criticize a problem she helped create when she voted to authorize the bailouts in 2008,” Brasovan said. “Does this mean that she now agrees that the bailouts were a mistake? That she realizes that true, conservative leadership would have been to vote against the bill in the first place?”

Granger is one of 70 Republican representatives who signed a letter, drafted by Rep. Jeb Hensarling (R-Texas), objecting to bonuses and deferred compensation for financial executives of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac.

Brasovan said he believes other solutions that were put forward in 2008 would have averted a financial crisis without the government getting involved in the private sector.

“It is good news if she realizes now that government bailouts are a mistake, but the bad news continues for taxpayers, and she still seems unwilling to admit that her so-called ‘once-in-a-generation’ vote was a mistake with serious consequences for future generations,” he said.

Brasovan is challenging Granger for her District 12 Congressional Seat. For more information on his campaign visit www.mikebrasovan.com

BRASOVAN SIGNS “NO CLIMATE TAX PLEDGE”

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: January 4, 2010

CONTACT: Danielle Capper, Media Relations. dcapper@mikebrasovan.com

Ft. Worth, TX—The Texas chapter of the free market grassroots group Americans for Prosperity (AFP-TX) today applauded U.S. Congressional candidate Mike Brasovan (12th District) for signing the group’s “No Climate Tax Pledge.” By doing so, Brasovan joins more than 300 lawmakers and candidates on the federal, state and local levels pledging to “oppose legislation relating to climate change that includes a net increase in government revenue.”

“I am very excited to be part of the Americans for Prosperity “No Climate Tax Pledge” group of legislators,” said Brasovan.

”I have never been convinced that the global warming, or cooling for that matter, is due to the activity of mankind," said Brasovan, "The attempt by some in governments around the world to control our lives and our ability to make products due to false science is nothing short of scandalous."

“I look forward to fighting against any such legislation if I am elected to Congress. I will be an advocate against the claims of global warming fear mongers,” said Brasovan, “My efforts will include putting the brakes on any efforts by the EPA to regulate CO2 emissions under the auspices of the Clean Air Act.”
